Last weekend we were privileged to join Amanda and Kyle in Fort Worth for their very cool, and very RED, wedding! We don’t work in Fort Worth very often, so we loved getting the chance to see two new beautiful places that we have never seen before, McKinney Memorial Bible Church and the Fort Worth Petroleum Club. Plus it’s always useful when the bride and groom are smoking hot!

Here are a few of our favorites that we pulled from the same-day slideshow we created at the reception:

A neat shot of their rings against a red background, which was the color of the day!

Normally we hang the dress up in a window or on a pretty wall, but the boys were wandering around and we didn’t want to risk Kyle seeing the dress early, so we decided to just stick it in the closet. It turned out surprisingly well, especially framed by the super red bridesmaids dresses!

Amanda doing some last minute primping before photos

We just loved this cool walkway, especially the way the light was coming through all the windows. Amanda and her girls thought we were crazy for asking them to walk down a dark hallway, but we’re pretty sure they loved the end result.

Jake got this great candid shooting through a door crack of Kyle waiting for his groomsmen to arrive.

We love playing with the sun to do cool tricks like this

This has come to be one of our most-requested photos.. One of our former grooms, Nick, described it as “the mafia pose.”

How gorgeous is this church? The altar has a great stone wall with a cross lit up by different colored spotlights. It looked more like a rock star stage than a church! We found out later that this is a pretty big-deal sanctuary.. Point of Grace is actually doing a concert here soon!

When we are graced with beautiful blue skies like this, we just have to take advantage of it!

Look at that sexy stare! Kyle has the GQ look DOWN!

We love our flare :)

Did I mention we love our flare?

Another great first dance shot. Sometimes it’s the details like this that have the most emotion in them.

Their super cool coordinator Tammy Sharpe of Sharp Weddings and Events had a horse-drawn carraige waiting at the end of the night to carry them off to their hotel room (which she also decorated during the reception!). Tammy did a fantastic job, we highly recommend her!

Amanda and Kyle, we really enjoyed being a part of your wedding day. Thank you so much for allowing us to be there with you! Have fun on your honeymoon!

Allison & James

We at mist will always tell you that every wedding is unique, but let’s be honest, some weddings are definitely more unique than others! This was definitely the case with Allison and James’ wedding at the Gaylord Texan last Saturday. Although it looked like a normal wedding, these guys (and their amazing coordinator Marsha, from our favorite one-stop wedding boutique, Stardust Celebrations) added a bit of their personality into everything.

Here is some proof:

Allison’s lovely dress.. We think that it looks like an invisible bride is in the dress, sitting in the chair. We just love delicate gowns like this!

Allison making some last minute adjustments to her dress

We’re always crawling around on the ground to find unusual angles, and although we often get weird looks from our clients, it pays off in unique shots like this one!

Jake got this great silhouette of James looking out into the Gaylord’s atrium, where the ceremony was held.

We love this ring shot because not only does it show off James’ wedding band, but it’s also a great reminder of their anniversary!

Notice the girl to the left of James.. That’s his sister, and Best Man.. err.. Best (Wo)Man!

Another cool solo shot of the groom, looking quite suave!

Allison and James had a harpist and violinist playing in the background of the ceremony, but before and after the ceremony they had loudspeakers blasting rock music. We think it totally fits their personalities and the whole wedding theme – classic, but with a touch of fun!

The ceremony was held in the heart of the Atrium, surrounded by lush plant life and sunlight, but comfortably air-conditioned. It doesn’t get much better than that!

A quick portrait of the new Bride and Groom!

LOVE – this is what makes our job so great!

For the reception, Marsha put the name cards out in a really neat fan shape, accented with lots of autumn touches to kick off the start of the fall season.

Instead of a traditional garter and bouquet toss, Allison presented her bouquet to the woman who introduced her to James (and the same woman who officiated the ceremony!)

Another great touch by Martha – instead of a guestbook, guests put notes of wisdom and congratulations on cards that they hung on this “Well Wishes Tree.”

Although the music was awesome (we loved the 90’s throwback songs!) there was no dancing at the reception – not even a first dance! However, one wedding guest decided to mix things up a little bit….

And last but not least, what wedding would be complete without some flowers getting thrown in your face by your nearest and dearest?

We had so much fun with Allison and James, and we loved getting the chance to be a part of their unique, personalized wedding. Congrats you two, and have fun on the honeymoon!

Anyone who has ever been to the Gaylord Texan knows that it is hands down one of the most beautiful locations in all of Dallas. They have an amazing atrium with waterfalls, fountains, winding pathways, rock sculptures, and gorgeous greenery – and it’s all air-conditioned! It’s a photographer’s dream come true. So imagine how happy we were when we learned that we would be photographing Allison’s wedding in the very heart of the atrium!

Normally the Gaylord is very hard (and very expensive) to get into for portraits, but because Allison was one of their few lucky brides, we had an all access pass to take her bridal portraits all over the massive complex. Here are some of our favorites:

This was actually taken in a very cool spiral staircase. Allison is a real trooper for climbing over that bar in a wedding dress and heels. Totally worth it!

We love using “negative space”!

Allison’s dress was very unique (just like her, and their wedding). Instead of being the traditional poofy lace ballgown with piles and piles of tulle, Allison wore a simple, delicate sheath. It was absolutely perfect for her!

This was taken in a secret area at the top of the atrium that most people never see. It was just so dramatic and romantic, especially with that lovely train. We added some texture on this one to give it that vintage, European feel.

We just love benches, they are the best props! (By the way, look at that bouquet – perfect for a fall wedding! Awesome colors!)

This one is definitely our favorite. The sun came out at just the right moment and hit Allison at the perfect angle. This shot is straight out of the camera – that perfect skin and those gorgeous eyes are all hers!

We just finished Allison and her now-husband James’ wedding, and we can’t wait to give you a preview! Coming soon!

Off to the Windy City!

We just returned from a quick trip out to one of the coolest cities in America – Chicago!! Alex and Nick, who will be getting married in Houston in February of 2008, decided that they wanted to have their engagement session in a place that meant a lot to them, so they flew Mist Photography out to the Windy City to do a destination session.

When Nick got an internship in Chicago a few years ago, Alex decided to follow him out there so they could spend a fun summer on their own. Now it holds a special place in their hearts, and it was so exciting for us to be able to share that and capture some new memories of them there.

Because most of the places Alex and Nick wanted to shoot at were tourist-heavy, we decided to slip up their session into two parts – sunset and early morning – to avoid most of the crowds. Here are a couple of our favorites:

It was practically pitch black outside when we shot this one.. Thank goodness for low light lenses and high ISOs! (You photographers out there know what we are talking about!)

And how could we resist a photo near the famous Chicago Theater. Some lucky guy had actually rented out the sign and put “Mary Alice will you marry me?” on it, and all night long people kept congratulating Alex as “Mary Alice”!

Anyone who has been to Chicago knows “the Bean” so of course we had to make a stop there.

This is hands down our FAVORITE shot of the day!! Could these two be any more beautiful?

Fun with signs!

Stacy braved the FRRRREEEEEEZING cold Lake Michigan water for this one. I’m shivering a bit just thinking about it! It was our last shot of the day, and one that meant the most to Alex & Nick, as this was the neighborhood they lived in.

We had SOOOO many great shots that we had to do a slideshow! Definitely take a minute to watch this show, it’s worth it, we promise! (You must have the Flash plug-in installed in your browser to view the show) To see it, just CLICK HERE!!
